In this neighborhood, you're just as likely to spy cyclists and joggers as you are to see armadillos and deer. With development dating back to the 1960s, this area has both modern, new construction and a number of attractive, ranch-style homes that have maintained their charming aesthetics throughout the years. Local Lifestyle

 

On a hilltop in west Austin, Northwest Hills has several major highways for easy access to downtown Austin. When the weather is warm, locals spend a good deal of their time hiking and boating at Lake Austin, touring Covert Park at Mount Bonnell, or strolling the Ann and Roy Butler Boardwalk.

With steep hills and plenty of traversable walkways, the neighborhood has its fair share of power walkers, bike riders, and runners. With a strong emphasis on community, businesses within the region boast offerings that cater to all ages.

Fall festivals are held annually at neighborhood schools. There's also a Fourth of July parade, the Deepwoods Drive Halloween Tour, the Haunted Austin Tour, and the Austin in a Nutshell Bike Tour. For those who like ghastly thrills and don't mind taking a short drive over the bridge, there's also Austin: Haunted City Exploration Game and Austin: Murder by Gaslight Tour.

 

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping 

 

Restaurants like Wholy Bagel, Taco Shack, Epoch Cafe, and Saffron are go-to locales in Northwest Hills. You can nab an oven-fresh jalapeno and cheddar bagel, grab a steaming cup of coffee, or indulge in Indian curries and noodles. The Kapatad Kitchen and Cafe offers a delightful fusion of Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine, and Bert's BBQ offers made-to-order tacos and a mouth-watering assortment of meat-loaded sandwiches. A fun place to visit is County Line on the Lake, where you can enjoy authentic Texas barbeque while admiring the lake views and turtles that swim up to the dock alongside the restaurant’s outdoor seating.

Schools

 

The Austin Independent School District is the official school district for Northwest Hills.  Doss Elementary and Hill Elementary are both wonderful schools in this neighborhood.
